I recently had the opportunity to partner with BookSpring to create a training program for their teacher and librarian partners in their Summer Success Program. BookSpring’s Summer Success program helps prevent summer learning loss in elementary students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with access to books and structured reading activities. Research shows that over 80% of these students lose reading skills over the summer, but participation in Summer Success can lead to improved reading scores, with up to 36% of students outperforming their peers. The program supports kindergarten through second-grade teachers with online training and TEKS-aligned curriculum resources featuring ten read-alouds from popular books, encouraging students to explore career possibilities through STEAM-themed lessons. BookSpring supplies books for classroom use and provides digital and print curriculum materials.
