Last year, when COVID had us sharing our most important moments via Zoom, I held a virtual baby shower for my friends. We couldn’t gather in person—but that didn’t mean we had to settle for awkward video calls and guessing games in the chat. Instead, I turned the event into an interactive, fully gamified experience.
From emoji storybook challenges and song-guessing battles to custom Mad Libs and frantic rounds of “Where’s Your Baby?”, this wasn’t your average shower. I designed every part of the presentation to be playful, fast-paced, and laughter-filled—while subtly encouraging connection across screens.
Now, I’ve turned that presentation into a fun H5P activity for my instructional design portfolio. It’s a playful reminder that any event—even a baby shower—can be reimagined through the lens of engagement design. Try it out and see how game mechanics can transform even the most traditional of events.
