I’m excited to share the first lesson in my CELTA Lesson Series, now live as an interactive course. This Lesson, Reading & Speaking: Communication (Pre-intermediate), was the very first class I taught during my Cambridge CELTA and the first I’ve fully redesigned for online delivery.
What the lesson covers
Learners practice two essential subskills:
- Reading for gist: reading quickly to understand the overall message of the text.
- Reading for specific information: scanning a text to locate key details or answers to set questions.
The question uses a lively text about how we communicate today, with tasks that build from prediction and vocabulary to comprehension and speaking follow-up.
How I redesigned for interactive, self-paced learning
In LearnPress, I:
- Added Interactive H5P tasks for vocabulary matching, gist prediction, scanning for details, and much more.
- Built a self-check quiz to reinforce key points.
- Created optional audio prompts so learners can practice speaking even when working asynchronously.
Why I’m Sharing This
I wanted to show my teaching in action, not just on paper. Each CELTA lesson in this series demonstrates how I combine communicative methodology with instructional design and ed-tech skills.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
